Suzanne is the voice and the vision of Shelton Group. Drawing on her extensive experience in energy and the environment – plus her 25 years in the marketing and advertising industry – Suzanne provides high-level strategic insights for our clients and speaks to audiences around the country about pressing issues related to marketing energy efficiency and sustainability.
Suzanne founded Shelton Group as a one-woman copywriting agency in 1991 and turned it into a nationally recognized marketing communications firm, electing in 2001 to focus exclusively on energy, energy efficiency and sustainability. In addition to maintaining her busy speaking and consulting schedule, Suzanne has served as a guest columnist for publications such as Fast Company, Green Builder and GreenBiz.com. Her insights about the consumer mindset on sustainability, the future of utilities and the changing energy landscape have been quoted in Forbes, the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, The Washington Post and other top media outlets.
VP Research & Insight
Lee Ann oversees all custom and proprietary research, including our Pulse studies. She directs a staff that conducts quantitative and qualitative studies as well as secondary analyses for Shelton’s clients, digging deep to find the nuggets of information that pave the way for successful insights, strategies and creative. She regularly presents findings to clients and industry groups around the country.
Before joining Shelton Group in 2001, Lee Ann spent 11 years in the banking industry, where she was responsible for product management and customer segmentation and targeting. She also served as senior vice president of marketing for BankFirst, an $850 million multi-bank holding company. In that position, she was responsible for strategic planning, branding, advertising and corporate and customer communications.
VP Account Management
Penny leads the client engagement process, overseeing activities from both a strategic and a tactical level so that all programs meet their objectives and generate desired results. Penny collaborates with clients on a strategic level, builds internal and external consensus to make certain we’ve arrived at the best possible solutions, develops strategic marketing plans, fosters creative campaign ideas, and oversees the account team to ensure our engagements run smoothly from start to finish.
Before joining Shelton Group, Penny was VP of Account Management at SRC/Brunner Atlanta, where she led teams focused on generating measurable results and achieving overall client satisfaction. She developed expertise in brand management and marketing while working with award-winning agencies such as The Martin Agency, Mullen and SRC/Brunner, where she shepherded programs for the likes of Ritz-Carlton Hotels, James Hardie Building Products and Russell Athletic.
VP Finance, Administration and HR
Kathy is responsible for managing all financial and administrative functions for Shelton Group, allowing us to provide exceptional client service in a seamless and timely manner. Kathy’s background as a CPA in both public and private sectors – as well as her extensive HR experience – ensures that both our personnel and management systems are top-notch. Kathy also serves as one of seven commissioners for Knoxville Utilities Board, a public utility providing electric, gas, water and wastewater services to Knoxville and parts of surrounding counties.
Since joining Shelton Group in 2005, Matt has helped steer the creative department in concepting, designing and producing the agency’s campaigns. As creative director, he ensures sound strategy and deep insights inform everything his team develops. As a designer and filmmaker himself, he’s also a principal contributor to all of Shelton’s in-house photography and videography work.
Matt has been in marketing design for 15 years, working with clients such as Nokia, BP Solar and Toshiba. Before becoming creative director, Matt was Shelton’s art director, a position he also held at Asen Marketing Group.
Digital Marketing Director
Gretchen develops our goal-based digital strategies and multi-channel digital marketing campaigns. She maps out intuitive online user experiences, collaborates with the research and creative teams to devise the most effective digital content, and identifies the best channels to acquire and convert customers.
She brings deep experience in content development, website architecture, and campaign and ROI measurement. She has more than a decade of experience as a digital marketer, content creator and writer for leading brands and media, including Scripps Networks, Kroger, Lowe’s and Better Homes & Gardens. She is an Inbound Marketing Certified Professional and has analytics training.
