  • July 1, 1991

    Shelton Group opened for business. (That sounds more dramatic than it was ... Suzanne was in the spare bedroom of a rental house with her head down on the desk, dreading picking up the phone and finding clients.)

  • May 1994

    Watson’s Department Store contracted Suzanne to temporarily fill a copywriter position. That became a four-year, Agency of Record relationship.

  • May 22, 1994

    Suzanne hired her first employee, Lance McClusky. He landed the job via a trial writing assignment for a Little Caesar’s Pizzas of the World promotion by creating the line “One World. Two Pizzas.” Brilliance.

  • November 24, 1997

    Shelton Group's journey in the utility sector began when TVA agreed to work with us on a collaborative campaign with 12 local electric distributors for their EnergyRight® program.

  • September 1, 1998

    Hired our longest standing – and still standing! – employee, Jennifer Guyton Johnson.

  • May 13, 2004

    Named Agency of Record for the American Institute of Architects, beginning our journey in the built environment.

  • February 2005

    Made the decision to specialize in energy and environmental marketing.

  • Summer 2005

    Fielded the first Energy Pulse™ study, setting our trajectory of thought leadership on the consumer mindset and energy/environment.

  • September 2006

    First big speaking engagement: 15 minutes at the Alliance to Save Energy’s Great Energy Efficiency Day, opening the doors to us sharing our thought leadership widely.

  • February 15, 2007

    Named Agency of Record for BP Solar – the first client landed under our energy and environment position.

  • July 1, 2007

    Named Agency of Record for Vectren – the first new utility client under our energy and environment position.

  • April 2008

    Fielded our first Eco Pulse™ study to track consumer attitudes about green products and companies promoting their sustainability commitments.

  • 2009

    Our popularity blossomed – we became sought-after conference presenters, regularly speaking at 10+ conferences per year.

  • September 2010

    Named Agency of Record for Toshiba LED Lighting, extending our energy and environmental work into true product marketing.

  • Summer 2011

    Launched our first national PSA campaign, Wasting Water Is Weird, to engage Americans in behavior change.

  • November 2013

    Fielded our first B2B Pulse™ to better understand how sustainability influences corporate buying behaviors.
