The Patriotic Case for Sustainability

If you’ve ever heard me talk deeply about Shelton Group’s vision – that every home and building in America is energy responsible and sustainability is ordinary – it’s probably struck you that our vision is a highly patriotic one. The Shelton Group team believes to our core that if we can learn to live within our environmental means in this country – not unlike our grandparents knew to do, without ever thinking of it as sustainability – we will be living in a better country and, ultimately, a better world. We see tremendous value for both the left side of the aisle AND the right side of the aisle if we accomplish this, from preserving the resources we need to supporting national security.

It strikes me that my friend, Joel Makower, Chairman and Executive Editor of the GreenBiz Group, and his colleagues Mark Mykleby and Patrick Doherty with the Strategic Innovation Lab, must feel the same way.

The three have a new book out entitled “The New Grand Strategy: Restoring America’s Prosperity, Security and Sustainability in the 21st Century.” I’ve only read the forward (I’ll be reading the full book in the coming weeks), but it appears that they’ve laid out a plan for creating a more prosperous, better America, and sustainability is core to the plan.

I wanted to make all of our readers aware that this is now out there and available for purchase. I’ll circle back after I’m done reading and we can compare notes. Happy reading!
